{"id":177,"date":"2016-08-17T04:37:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T04:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asiagatewaytraining.com\/?p=177"},"modified":"2023-08-02T04:38:05","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T04:38:05","slug":"equipping-leaders-through-cross-cultural-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiagatewaytraining.com\/?p=177","title":{"rendered":"Equipping Leaders Through Cross-Cultural\u00a0Training"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"548\" height=\"308\" src=\"https:\/\/asiagatewaytraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/AGT_AGT_Inside1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asiagatewaytraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/AGT_AGT_Inside1.jpg 548w, https:\/\/asiagatewaytraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/AGT_AGT_Inside1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The students on a weekend mission trip to Cameron Highlands<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asia Gateway has successfully launched its 2016 Residential Training, which is a key initiative of AsiaCMS to train and equip workers and leaders for cross-cultural mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The six-week training at Malaysia Theological Seminary in Seremban attracted 16 students from six countries \u2013 Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore and Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme, which runs from July 16 to Aug 26, combines lectures and field trips to give students the best of academic training and exposure in a multi-faith and multi-cultural environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In between lessons, discussions and devotions, the students visited a mosque, a Hindu temple and a Buddhist temple, and participated in an interfaith dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the students also went on a weekend mission trip to Orang Asli settlements in Cameron Highlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Midway through the programme, the students were asked for their feedback on the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe subject matters offer good cross-culture exposure to participants. I could see the incarnated Christ in the lecturers I met. They were interested and prepared for people of different cultures,\u201d said one student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another student said he had learnt how to fit himself in a new culture and now has a better understanding of the mission of God from the beginning to the end of the New Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe should be mission leaders not just to preach but also to attract people in our sphere,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked how he intended to apply the lessons learnt, one student said: \u201cThe Bible in mission lessons complement the Kairos course that I am conducting. I will integrate cross-cultural issues in my ministry, teaching and preaching.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another student said he had learnt to respect and appreciate other cultures and to use contextualisation lessons on \u201cunreached people groups\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The learning at Asia Gateway has certainly helped these church workers and leaders by increasing their sensitivity to local cultures wherever they may be or serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes, the gospel is compromised by such ignorance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Asia Gateway has successfully launched its 2016 Residential Training, which is a key initiative of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-177","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-articles"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.11 -
